Global Conference on Open Source 2009

freedomGlobal Conference on Open Source has been finalized successfully. It’s time to talk about Free Software and the commitee is proudly present a fully free seminar (as in beer and in speech) by The President of Free Software Foundation: Mr. Richard M. Stallman.

Opportunities in the open source industry are expected to show growth in the near and long term future. As institutions are becoming aware of the open source option, and the ways by which it can help them, usage & implementations continue to grow. A survey by Gartner in 2008 has shown that 85% of companies all over the world have at least one solution involving the use of open source technology.
Both the private sector and governments appreciate the freedom given by the open source solution. They are now in full control of their IT infrastructure. Now their software is theirs to implement in any ways they see fit. Implemented properly, open source solution also mean significant cost savings; from the performance gains, reliability, lack of licesing fee, and so on. The global economic crisis, has further driven the conversion to open source solutions.

Even for software developers, open source software brings many benefits OR using open source software has a lot of advantages e.q – high-quality code to be reused in their own projects, enabling access to the community, key marketing advantage, etc.

Looking at the world wide growth of F/OSS (Free / Open Source Software), the Association of Open Source in Indonesia (AOSI), who’s members are observers, developers, trainers, users, as well as supporters of open source movement; and in cooperation with State Ministry of Research and Technology (Ristek), and the Department of Communication and Information (Depkominfo), will be hosting the “Global Conference on Open Source” at Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta, on 26-27 October 2009.
